This is why I won’t stop…and a key to happiness.

A key to happiness and a full-hearted thanks and appreciation to all of you who read my blog.

Reflection and full circle. Last night I went to a “shindig” of sorts. It was the ‘re-opening’ of a bicycle shop and new ownership presentation. I, admittedly, with my travel/ commentary of professional events, have kind of lost touch with the local cycling community. I miss it. Last night was a very nice way to see new faces and the same ole’ cyclists who have been around the Charlotte cycling scene for decades.

I used to be a minority owner of this little shop that was, back then, in the “gentrifying” neighborhood of central Charlotte. The relationship didn’t last very long because of a myriad of reasons, but more importantly, it was a great lesson in business. I was likely too proud to back down 18 years ago. I was the one that was right dammit! Bleh. :)

One of my first stops was to Chris, my former partner, to say hello. I wanted to say how happy I was that he willed into existence and survival of this shop. I also spoke with Ben, the new owner, about how great it was to see a local owner, spread his wings. (Probably not that exact sentence, but you get it). I hugged old friends, as if we haven’t skipped a beat. Friends from the old training center days and friends that I’ve raced with and against for many years.

Multiple people would come up to me and say that they read my blog. I was stunned. When you blog, you do it for yourself. I feel, at least. If others can join and enjoy your journey, that’s even better. They would say something about “The vulnerability of it.” I FORGET my journey and assume everyone else has done or is on their journey. I was taken aback by the kind words. When I started all the changes in my life, NEVER did I think I would put them down, in a blog, for others to see and read. But, maybe, in some way, my blog can help others. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Here we are. 18 years later. Full circle to a bike shop that has gone through its changes too. I wouldn’t even recognize the person that was a partner in a bike shop from almost 20 years ago. Today I’m writing as things continue to evolve for me. I tell myself to be .01% better each day. This is my goal every day. These changes have made me incredibly happy and reflective. I will continue putting “pen to paper”. I won’t stop.

If you see me out and about. Call me out. Hug it out. Suggestions are always welcome too.

Are you on a journey too? Share it with me :)
